if standing one hex from the wall facing away from it were prohibited, then what about standing two hexes from it and facing away for defensive purposes? And could an attacker then be exempted from the rules regarding standing in the prohibited locations of one hex or less from the wall out of necessity?)Ĥ: What about using a formation like.one or two ‘Mechs with stronger back armor (or damaged ‘Mechs that have become little more than fodder) standing on the very edge, facing sideways so their backs were exposed to enemy fire, and another ‘Mech with weaker back armor standing in front of them effectively making its own back unassailable unless and until the OpFor cuts through an exposed-back protector first to open up the hexes that have access to the back of the more vulnerable ‘Mech? This would probably be impractical due to forcing the facing of multiple mechs, thus limiting which ones can fire at targets in different spots, but if you had a particularly powerful ‘Mech with weak back armor like a Hunchback, it might be worth it. Havoc, as I mentioned, my manual-scouring, edge-case-finding competitive side likes to fully understand the exact details of rules, so if you’ll pardon my interrogation here are some edge cases that come to mind that I’d like clarification on:ġ: We discussed this one amongst ourselves, and I would guess you’ll agree with the conclusion, but I don’t believe you’ve explicitly ruled on it yet: what about standing next to an impassible cliff face which is perhaps a hex or two away from the “yellow-line” wall, but the area in between it and the wall is impassible so it might as well be an extension of the wall? I assume you can’t put your back to that either, right, since it is functionally identical to the yellow-line wall itself?Ģ: What about standing one hex away from a wall or cliff-face-extension of the wall and facing directly away from it, so only one or two spots on the map are capable of backstabbing that ‘Mech, to prevent being dog-piled by the whole backstabbing enemy lance on one defending ‘Mechs rear armor at the same time?ģ: If someone positions themselves as described in #2, should the opponent backstabber be exempt from the original rule and allowed to stand against the wall with their back to that wall simply because that’s the only way they can perform a backstab on their target, with no ulterior motive of protecting their own back? (#2 and #3, by the way, are a recursive loop of questions, e.g.
